Liberty Bell
|
The Liberty bell was the first slot machine ever created. This machine was invented
by a man named Charles Fey in 1887. Sure, there were some other devices around which
could be considered the front runners for slot machines, but before Charles Fey
introduced the Liberty Bell to the world, there was nothing that worked with reels
that spin to make a combination.

A picture of charles Fey at his prime. Not only did he develop the first slot machine,
but created countless machines after that. |
|
|
Chrles Fey did not sell his machines. He only rented them out on a profit share
basis at 50%. Ofcourse it wasn't long before one of his machines got stolen, presumably
by the Herbert Mills Factory. Not too long after which the Mills "Operators Bell
Machine"
made it's appearance on the market.
|
The Liberty Bell machine accepted and paid out nickels. Although the machine listed
drinks as rewards. The payout information was as follows:
3 Bells =
10 Drinks
Flush of Hearts = 8 Drinks
Flush of Diamonds = 6 Drinks
Flush of Spades = 4 Drinks
Two horseshoes
and a star =
2 Drinks
Two horseshoes = 1 Drink

The Mills Machine had 20 Symbols instead of the 10 of the Liberty Bell. It introduced
the concept of the teaser which is what you call it when the symbol appears just
above the payline, to make it look like you almost won.
These machines had an avarage payout of about 50% which is very little considering
that most of todays machines payout between 92% and 98%. |
