Texas Hold'em.

Texas Hold’em is the most common poker game played across the world. It is played in major competitions like the World Series of poker that attract thousands of poker players to Las Vegas every year. If you want to learn texas Hold'em I think this should help. So if you have never played it before here are some basic Texas Hold'em rules and instructions. Firstly and very importantly the aim of the game is to make the best 5 card poker hand out of the 7 cards that are available to you. 2 of them will be in your hand that only you can see. And the other 5 will be on the table open for everyone to use. You have to use five cards to make a hand. It can be any combination of the 7 cards that are available to you. You could use one card from your hand and four cards from the table. Or both cards from your hand and 3 cards from the table. Or if the best 5 cards are the ones on the table then you only have to use them.

How to start playing.

1. Two people will be forced to put chips in every hand. This is called the blinds.
2. There is a little white plastic disc on the table that says dealer. This is called a dealer button. This indicates whose turn it is to put the blinds in. Also if there isn’t a designated dealer at your table this would indicate who’s turn it is to deal the cards. The disc will move around the table and has to be moved to the left after every hand to give everyone a chance.
3. The 2 people sitting to the left of the dealer button will be forced to put money in before the cards are dealt. Just to get the game going and there is something to play for.
4. The person sitting to the left of the dealer button will put in what we call “small blind” this is half of the big blind so if the big blind is 100 the small blind will be 50.
5. The person to the left of the small blind will put in the big blind referring to the above example this is 100
6. The dealer will deal you two cards face down. These are called your hole cards or pocket cards.
7. Then starting from the person next to the big blind every person on the table will get a turn to either match the big blind to stay in the hand, fold their cards if they don’t think they are very good or increase the bet (raise) if they think their hand is very good.
8. Then the dealer will open 3 communal cards in the middle of the table this is known as the flop, you now have to match the 2 cards you have in your hand to the 3 cards that have been opened on the table to try and make one of the 5 card poker hands.
9. Another round of betting will take place. If someone places a bet any person who wishes to remain in the hand has to match that bet. If you don’t think your cards are good enough you can fold. If you want to stay in the hand but you do not want to place a bet you can do something called “check”. And then the next person will get a turn. You can only check if no-one has placed a bet. If everybody around the table checks then the dealer will open the next card without it being necessary to put any money in. But just so we are clear, if you check it means you want to stay in the hand but you do not want to put any money in.
10. After the round of betting the dealer will open 1 more communal card this is known as the turn.
11. Another round of betting will take place.
12. Then the dealer will open the last communal card which is known as the river.
13. A final round of betting will take place
14. Then the players cards will be opened and who ever has the highest ranking hand wins the pot.
