Rummy

Rummy has been around for a very long time, most of us know it as one of the card games we played during our childhood. There is lots of fun to be had with this childhood favourite now that you are grown up. As in poker there are many variations in the game of rummy. I have just tried to lay out the basic concept which should give you a good understanding of the game of rummy and a platform which will make the other rummy games easy to learn. If you don't know the game then I will be explaining the rules of rummy. So that everyone can learn rummy to enjoy for endless days to come.

Here are the basic rummy rules:

Rummy is played with 1- 52 card deck without any jokers. Ideally there are between 2 and 4 players.
The cards are shuffled and if there is 2 players, each player is dealt 10 cards face down, if there is more than 2 players each player is dealt 7 cards.
The remainder of the cards are placed face down in the middle of the table (stock pile) and one card is turned face up. This will be known as the discard pile.
The aim of the game is to be the first person who has discarded all the cards in their hand by having created melds (3-4 cards of the same value e.g. 7h-7c-7d. Or melds that are consecutive cards all of the same suit e.g. 3-4-5-6 all hearts), discarding cards or adding cards to melds that has been opened on the table.
To start the game a player will look at the card at the on the top of the discard pile, at this stage there will only be one card, and decide whether they want to pick it up or not ( you should pick it up if it will help you form a meld). If they wish to pick up the card, they put it in their hand and discard one of their other cards.
If a player does not wish to pick up the card at the top of the discard pile they may draw a card from the stock pile and decide whether to keep it or not. If not they can discard it onto the discard pile. If they do want to keep it they have to discard one of their other cards.
As soon as a player has formed a meld (pack), they may place it face up on the table, so during the course of the game there will be different melds from players open on the table.
If you have any cards that can be added to another players meld, you may do so in your turn. For example if the 5-6-7-8 of diamonds is open on the table and you have the 9 of diamonds you may add it to the meld.
The first person to get rid of all their cards is the winner of the round.
The remainder of the players get points for the cards that are still in their hand. They are not allowed to lay down anymore cards once one player has gotten rid of all of their cards.
The point system works as follows: A = 1 K, Q, J = 10 And all the other cards are face value. The scores from all the other players are added up and added to that of the winning player. The player with the highest score is the winner.

Before the game starts players can decide to play a specific number of rounds e.g. 10 or they can decide to play to a specific score e.g. 100 at the end of which a winner is determined.
