The basics of poker.

Poker is played with one 52 – card deck of cards. There are generally no more than 10 players playing against each other at a table.

There are a lot of variations of poker but they all work on a basic principle of hand rankings.
Who ever has the hand with the highest ranking is the winner.

Or who ever bets enough to get the other players to fold (discard) their cards is the winner.

Generally poker hands consist out of five cards, the best five card hand is the winner. These five cards are not always held in your hand.

Depending on the specific poker game e.g. Texas Hold’em you might be dealt two cards and there will be five communal cards, I know this equals a total of seven cards but you will select the five best cards out of these seven to make the highest hand possible.
What is the best hand possible, you ask? Well let me give you a break down of the hand rankings.

The hand rankings – Low to High

High Card

In this case the five cards did not actually make one of the poker hands. So the person with the highest card would win. E.G
